A Day at the Zoo

 It was a sunny Saturday morning. Emma and her best friend, Tom, were very excited. Today, they were going to the zoo! Emma packed her camera, and Tom brought some sandwiches. “Let’s take pictures of every animal!” Emma said with a big smile.

When they arrived, the zoo was full of sounds—monkeys were screaming, birds were singing, and children were laughing. Their first stop was the lion’s cage. The lion was huge and sleepy. “He looks like my cat!” Tom laughed. Emma giggled and took a photo.

Next, they saw the giraffes eating leaves from tall trees. Then they walked to the penguin area. Suddenly, one penguin slipped on the ice and fell on his belly. Everyone laughed! Emma laughed so hard she almost dropped her camera.

Before leaving, they went to the elephant area. A baby elephant came close to the fence and sprayed water with its trunk. Emma and Tom screamed, “Ahhh!”—but then they laughed again.

On their way home, Emma looked at her pictures and said, “You know, animals are funny, kind, and smart. Maybe they understand us more than we think.”

Tom smiled. “Next time, let’s bring bananas for the monkeys!”

And they both laughed all the way home.
